Alastair Barnes, one of South Africa’s accomplished artists and sculptors, was born and educated in East London. As a boy he was left to run wild, attaining most of his Selbornian education in a serendipitous haze whilst hunting, fishing and languishing amongst the beautiful game-filled forests, bush and rolling grass-covered hills of the border area of the Eastern Cape. It was there that his passion for wildlife and African landscapes began. He has been sculpting and painting them ever since.

From his countryside studio nestled in the belly of the Overberg, Alastair continues to infuse his insatiable interest of the natural world into every creative expression. His enthusiasm for people, philosophy, beauty, the arts, strong tea (and a good book) shapes and inspires not only his work, but the very reason he does it in the first place.

Alastair’s work is obtainable at top galleries around South Africa and commissions are welcomed.
